At the beginning of the 1980's a few residents of Hutton Cranswick called a meeting to canvass opinions as to whether there was sufficient interest among villagers to form a local Bowls Club. There was enough enthusiasm for a project and the seeds were sown.

From an idea, a Club was born. No Green, nowhere to build, no money and very little idea of the enormity of such a project. The need for money was paramount and various fund raising activities were entered into. The possibility of grant aid was investigated and several local sites were looked at and evaluated as to their potential suitability for creating a Bowls venue. GOOD FORTUNE was ours. Maurice and Barbara Peckitt, who owned the Spar Shop, and Bill and Babs Aitken, hosts of the White Horse Inn, very generously donated sufficient land to the Club to enable a full sized Bowling Green to be constructed together with space for a good sized Clubhouse. The ground was excavated, the base laid and levelled, topsoil put down and the grass sown and the waiting began. The grass grew green and after a year we had somewhere to play. Initially no such luxuries as a clubhouse or proper changing facilities, just an old static caravan purchased for £50 and subsequently a second acquired for similar money. Eventually funds became available for the purchase of 2 Hull prefab houses which Club members converted into a clubhouse. Another prefab was purchased later and the building extended to form what we have today.

A full sized six rink Bowling Green together with a Clubhouse with changing rooms, a kitchen with good catering facilities and taking pride of place, three indoor rinks for short mat Bowls, enabling Hutton Cranswick Bowls Club to offer all year round bowling.

This is a brief outline of events. The work goes on. There are ongoing programmes of maintenance and improvement, most tasks being carried out by hard working members who give generously of their time and talents in support of the Club.
